ELWR for Multilingual Students

Students in computer lab.

Follow the steps below to satisfy the ELWR:

STEP 1: Take the Exam

  • If you are required to take the ELPE, you will be contacted with information about the ELPE and instructions on how to register.
  • If you miss your scheduled ELPE, please contact us at iae@ucdavis.edu.
  • If you are required to take the ELPE, you must have an ELPE score to be able to take any writing course.

Learn more about the ELPE here

STEP 2: Complete the Course Sequence

Your ELPE score will determine which ESL writing course you should enroll in first. Then you must take and pass the remaining courses in order until completion. Once you complete this sequence, you will have satisfied your Entry Level Writing Requirement.

For example, if you score an 80 on the ELPE, you should enroll in and pass UWP 23 and then enroll in and pass WLD 57s/Writing 39A (in that order) to satsify your English Language Writing Requirement.
