Joanna Regulska, vice provost and dean of UC Davis Global Affairs, and Zachary Frieders, executive director of the UC Davis Global Learning Hub within Global Affairs, were recently elected to key leadership positions with NAFSA: Association of International Educators (NAFSA). NAFSA is the world's largest nonprofit association dedicated to international education and exchange, with more than 10,000 members worldwide at more than 3,500 institutions. NAFSA is led by a board of directors and seven committees.  

Joanna Regulska: Advancing International Education 

Last year, Regulska was elected to the NAFSA Board of Directors and in January was appointed to serve as vice president for public policy and practice (VPPP) for the remainder of the open term. This fall, Regulska was formally elected as VPPP for a three-year term where she will provide leadership in the association’s communication with members regarding public policy and regulatory practice efforts. In addition to these duties, Regulska was also asked to chair the search committee for the NAFSA executive director and CEO. 

“I am excited to continue my journey with NAFSA,” said Regulska. “NAFSA plays a critical role in advancing international education, collaborations and exchanges, and I look forward to working with the board to advance its mission and impact.” 

Zachary Frieders: Better Equipping International Educators 

Beginning January 1, 2023, Frieders will chair the Teaching, Learning and Scholarship Knowledge Community (TLS KC) Committee for a three-year term. He will work in partnership with NAFSA staff and the TLS KC team to define programming and properly equip international educators with the knowledge, research and skills needed to encourage and support the infusion of international, intercultural and global knowledge into the outcomes of their work. 

“I am thrilled to be stepping into this role and look forward to advancing quality products, programs and services that serve the international education community,” said Frieders. “This role nicely compliments my work at the UC Davis Global Learning Hub and I am excited to facilitate and share best practices and lessons learned with the NAFSA community.”
