Shahid Ul Islam is currently a Fulbright researcher and Cultural Ambassador at the University of California, Davis, United States. Before joining UCD, he was a Principal Project Scientist at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India, where he led two projects funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (DST-SERB) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India. He is a member of many groups, including the American Chemical Society (USA), and is a life member of the Asian Polymer Association. His scientific recognition includes being among the world’s top 2% of scientists on the Stanford University list (2020), winning the prestigious Fulbright fellowship (2020), winning the Shastri-Indo Canadian fellowship to pursue research at McGill University Canada (2020), receiving a postdoctoral offer from South-West University China (2019), winning the CSIR Research Associate (2019), and DST- SERB National Postdoctoral (2017) fellowship awards, and being the recipient of several other prestigious national and international awards for his academic achievements. He has also received an international travel grant from DST to present his work in “the 91st International Textile Institute meeting at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He has filed for two patents and is the author of numerous scientific articles, including peer-reviewed journal papers, reviews, chapters, and books published by the American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, Elsevier, Wiley, and Springer, etc. Under his Fulbright fellowship at UC Davis, Dr. Shahid is working on the interface of materials science and textile technology, with the main emphasis on the design and development of advanced light-activated materials for protective and coating applications.
