Dr. Abdul REHMAN is serving as Visiting Associate Professor at the Center for Animal Disease Modeling and Surveillance, Department of Medicine and Epidemiology, UC Davis. At the same time, he Associate Professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan.
Dr. AR received his graduation (DVM) in 2009 and MPhil (Epidemiology and Public Health) in 2012, both with distinction from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. Later, he earned his doctoral degree by jointly working at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute of Epidemiology, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Germany and the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universität, Berlin, in 2016. His PhD research focused on the epidemiology of ticks and tick-borne pathogens in the semi-arid and arid agroecological zones.
Dr. AR has won competitive projects of worth PKRs more than 30 million, about 15 million as PI and 15 million as Co-investigator. He mentored 15 graduate students, including 14 MPhil and one PhD student, and served as a member of the supervisory committees for more than 20 graduates. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in top-ranked journals, co-authored a book chapter and published several policy briefs. He remained involved in developing surveillance plans, risk mapping and policy documentation for the control of infectious diseases of animals in Pakistan. He has been a part of consultative meetings and workshops organized by the animal health authorities, including FAO, WAOH, and Fleming Fund, UK, for developing guidelines for surveillance of antimicrobial resistance.
Currently, he is working on the epidemiology of infectious diseases of livestock including zoonotic infections and AMR-related issues. His contributions have been recognized through numerous honors and awards from well-reputed national and international organizations, including the HEC—Pakistan, German Academic Exchange Council, Korean Government Scholarship Program, International Center for Theoretical Physics—Italy, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine—USA, EcoHealth 2018 award, UNESCO’s Youth As Researchers (YAR) award, and Fulbright Fellowship—USA reflecting the significance and excellence of his academics and research efforts.
