Over the past several weeks, conflict has intensified in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, causing refugees to flee into Armenia after Azerbaijan claimed control of the area. We continue to hope for lasting peace. UC Davis is committed to supporting our campus community during these challenging times.
The recent earthquake in Morocco and floods in Libya were devastating, and we are deeply saddened and concerned by their impact. Our thoughts are with all the members of the UC Davis community impacted by these terrible natural disasters.

In recent weeks, Iran has experienced widespread unrest in cities throughout the country, where protests have erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini. Last week, the UC Davis Iranian Student Association held a memorial service for Ms. Amini. We are deeply saddened by the death of Ms. Amini and those who have lost their lives while protesting in Iran. UC Davis is committed to upholding fundamental human rights. We affirm the dignity inherent in all of us and strive to maintain a climate of equity and justice. We stand against the use of violence, repression, and discrimination.
On behalf of Global Affairs, we would like to thank Mauricio Cañoles, who is stepping down from his role as the general manager of our UC Davis Chile Life Sciences Innovation Center (UC Davis Chile) as of August 1, 2022. We hope you will join us in thanking Mauricio for his excellent, visionary leadership.

We continue to closely follow reports of the recent invasion in Ukraine and are thinking of our students, scholars, faculty, staff, partners and all those affected by these events in the region and around the world. We will always hope and wish for peace to prevail.
